Liffeybank welcomed Dunshaughlin Youths to St. Catherine's Park to contest their eagerly awaited last 32 of the SFAI trophy today.
Liffeybank weathered early pressure from Dunshaughlin and went in 1-0 ahead at the break after taking the lead on 21 minutes, Ava Coburn with a drilled finish into bottom left corner of the net.
Dunshaughlin equalised early in the second half with a fine sweeping half volley into the far side netting, and soon after took the lead after a goal mouth scramble created by a floated free kick into the box.
Liffeybank responded almost immediately with Abi Martin playing a excellent through ball to Ava Coburn, who rounded the keeper and composed herself before rolling it into the net to make it 2-2.
Liffeybank almost snatched a late winner with a half volley from a fine corner routine (in picture above) but it went wide of the near post.
So extra time it was, with the poor parents destined to be exposed to the cold wind for another 20 minutes at least. Dunshaughlin scored the lead goal with the last play of the first half of extra time, an excellent corner whipped in from the right, a slight flick on from a Liffeybank defender took the hapless keeper out of the game and it was forced over the line by a determined Dunshaughlin player.
With Dunshaughlin pushing for the insurance goal in the second half of extra time, Liffeybank broke, and following a save from the keeper at the near post, the follow up was blazed over with the goal gaping, with the ball taking a slight bobble, agonisingly missing the opportunity to force a penalty shoot out.
Overall it was a great contest and Liffeybank would like to thank Dunshaughlin for a highly enjoyable and competitive game and wish them every success in the last 16!!
