EWFL 3; Kilcock Celtic 1, Liffeybank 0.

Our Women's side travelled the short trip to play Kilcock Celtic last Sunday. A bright start from Liffeybank in the first competitive game of 2023 should have led to taking the lead but the hosts stood firm. Then on 14 minutes a corner kick for Kilcock was initially cleared but the ball was controlled well by the impressive Celtic forward who found the net from a long range shot. The visitors continued to have a number of chances before the half time break without capitalising. This was also the story in the second half with KIlcock facing a number of efforts on goal. Unfortunately from a Liffeybank point of view we could not get the goal we pushed for. Plenty of positives for the women in blue with six players making their competitive debut for Liffeybank.

MGL U11B; Maynooth Town 3, Liffeybank 4 (Bianca x2, Tessa x2).

This was a very closely fought local battle that just saw the Blues pip the Whites by the odd goal in seven. Tessa and Bianca controlled the midfield for large parts of the game and swept forward when the opportunity arose. Each girl got a brace of goals for their efforts. It wasn't all Liffeybank and only for some super saves from Freya it could have been the home team going home with the three points.


EMGL U14A; Liffeybank 3 (Melissa x2, Kate), Shankill 0.Melissa Doherty opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a fine effort into the roof of the net after good work down the right from Caoimhe O' Reilly and Abby Hudson.
Hannah Fleming was unlucky not to score and had an excellent game in a wide left position linking up really well with an impressive Zion Osawe throughout, and with Molly O' Connor, captain for the day, who found her with some clever passes in behind the defense.
Liffeybank applied more pressure and doubled their lead on 20 minutes with Melissa again scoring, a lofted effort with her left foot, after Kate Corscadden had come close to scoring.
In the second half Shankill came close a couple of times and deserved a goal for their efforts, but 'keeper Aisling O' Brien Killeen made some excellent saves to preserve her clean sheet.

With 15 to go Kate got the insurance goal to make it 3-0, and the Shankill 'keeper made some brave saves despite taking a couple of knocks through the game.
Shankill again came close to scoring at the death but were denied by good defensive work from Melody Omozee and Lucy Kelly.
Overall it was a good match with both teams acquitted themselves well.
